About Us

CuBowl was born from a simple frustration: the slimy buildup that keeps coming back in ordinary pet water bowls.

After dealing with the constant scrubbing ourselves, we started looking for a better solution. We wanted a bowl made with an unlacquered oligodynamic material, a material known for helping reduce the growth of bacteria, viruses, and fungi. When we could not find one, we decided to make it ourselves.

CuBowl was originally founded by a former microbiology graduate student and two University of British Columbia microbiology Ph.D. candidates. From the beginning, the mission was practical and science-driven: create a pet bowl that was beautiful, durable, and genuinely functional.

The original CuBowl designs used copper-plated stainless steel, combining the strength of stainless steel with the natural benefits of copper. Over time, we continued improving the design, finish, and durability. Those improvements led to our newest generation of CuBowls, made with a copper PVD finish over stainless steel.

PVD, short for Physical Vapor Deposition, allows copper to be bonded to the stainless steel surface in a more consistent and durable way than traditional plating. The result is a cleaner, tougher, and more reliable finish that improves the customer experience while staying true to the original purpose of CuBowl: helping keep your pet's water cleaner and clearer.

Today, CuBowls are designed to bring together science, practicality, and everyday convenience. Built with a stainless steel core and finished using our improved copper PVD method, CuBowl offers a simple way to improve one of the most important parts of your pet's daily routine: fresh, clean water.

In 2019, CuBowl was acquired by BoxerTUFF Pet Products, a privately held pet products manufacturer committed to healthy, natural pet products, strict safety standards, and giving back to registered pet rescue organizations.
